My Favourite Games (Part 1)

Many (if not all) of my friends knows that I love playing video games. It is my passion. It is my life. I wish that before I breathe my last breath, I SHALL PLAY VIDEO GAMES!!!

Well anyway, I've played many games over the past decade (isn't that obvious?) and I have hand-picked some of my favourite games-of-my-past-ten-years. Since this is my blog, and basically (and obviously) I can put anything in my blog, expect my next few posts are about the games I like and love.

The first one that comes in my list of favourite games is:

GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS

A few years ago when I heard of this game from my friends I felt that... This games isn't really my type of game. One of the reasons why is that at that time, I don't like the fact that the game is themed on violence, senseless killings, sex, etc... But in 2008, I had decided to pick it up and just try it. And, well, of course, I got addicted to it since.

The reasons why I love playing GTA SA so much is not because I like shooting off people's head or hiring prostitutes for my... (erhm... ehrm...) "pleasures".... But I love playing this game because I like the fact that I can just discover and explore the vastness of San Andreas in a variety of vehicles, airplanes and boats. I also found out that I like driving really, really fast in very, very fast vehicles. Every time I play this game, I always pick (or hijack) a fast car and zoom around really, really fast in a city while dodging other vehicles along the way.

I've beaten the main storyline missions about 3 times already, with a total playing time of about 150+ hours. So, I consider myself as a "Veteran GTA Player". I do know (memorized, actually) the way around the 3 cities in GTA SA, know almost all the names of cars, motorcycles, trucks, boats and planes in the game and know how to handle each one of those vehicles, and know what to do or how to react when "this and this" or "that and that" happens. Need I say more? All you need to know is that I love this game and I rock at it!!!

Occasionally, I download mods from the internet to either enhance my GTA-playing experience or just making things a little bit less dull (once you've played this game for like 150+ hours, things do get pretty predictable and that can be dull). A recent mod that I had downloaded from www.gtagarage.com is the one that I like the most. It is called "ENBSeries for GTA San Andreas" created by Vorontsov Boris. It is basically a mod that improves the visuals of GTA SA by adding real shadows, bloom effects, real car and water reflection, motion blur and finally ambient occlusions (if you're not a hardcore gamer, then you wouldn't know what the HELL am I talking about). Screenshots below; just to show the difference.

This is how the original game looks like. Pretty usual and pretty boring, right? (those who play this should know)

Now this is what this game should look like!!! Notice that the shadows are darker? Notice that the cars now reflects their surroundings? Notice how the sky and the white paint on the road seem brighter and "bloom-ier"? IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!! (Well, for me, that is) The only downside is, well, better graphics means lower performance. This game actually lags like hell when I enable this mod at 1280 x 1024 screen resolution. Have to decrease it to 800 x 600 to play it smoothly. Note that I had also disable ambient occlusions effects because my pc lags like WTF's Hell with it enabled, even at 640 x 480. So, if you're thinking of downloading this mod, make your pc is strong enough to support all of this.

That's all I can say about this game. Man, it took me like 45 minutes to make this post. Congrats for those who actually read this post from start to end and actually understands it. Congrats also to Rockstar North for the great game and Vorontsov Boris for the great mod.
